Johanne Mills is an experienced London based stylist, set designer and art director working on editorial, advertising features and projects for clients in the fashion, beauty and creative industries.
After gaining an MA in Mixed Media from the Royal College of Art, she has continued to work across disciplines. Her career began as a stylist and art director in film and TV alongside creative direction for the Donna Karan Company, where she was responsible for collection inspiration, special events, curating exhibitions, store interiors and developing products and showrooms. As a stylist and set designer she has enjoyed working with still life photographers for over twenty years.
As a consultant she has undertaken a wide range of commissions. The sense of craftsmanship remains through a love of techniques such as embroidery, paper cutting, collage, origami, passementerie, metal work, weaving, marquetry, tooled leatherwork, knot work and sculpting. She enjoys gathering research, exploring new methods, pushing them beyond conventional characteristics and combining tradition with a modern sensibility.
The expertise and knowledge gained within industry is complementary to over 20 years lecturing experience at many leading academic institutions where she has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
